Halloween on a Budget-Costume Ideas

by chrissy on September 30, 2010

in Uncategorized

It’s time to start thinking about Halloween! This one night can cost a ton of money! A cute little costume can cost up to $40. That is a crazy amount of money to spend on an outfit your child will wear for about 2 hours! Here are a few tips to help you get a costume on a budget.

Trade:

Ask around and see if anyone has a costume you can use. Even if they don’t have a child the same size you might be able to use accessories like hats, tails, wigs or a cape.

Buy used:

Make sure to check all your local consignment shops or garage sales. Costumes are a great thing to buy used because chances are the child only used the item for a few hours. You should be able to pick up a nice costume for under $10.

Get creative:

Look around the house for things you could use. Get creative and have some fun!

1. Use dress up clothes:

  • Jessie the Cowgirl (Toy Story 3)
  • Princess/King

2. Paint a big box:

  • Robot
  • Car
  • Train

3. Look in the closet:

  • Dora-Orange shorts, pink shirt and a backpack
  • Rapunzel-White nightgown and make a long wig out of yarn
  • Dalmatian-Add spots to some sweatpants

Get a deal:

If you have to buy a new costume make sure to get a good deal! Check daily deal sites for discounted vouchers. You can typically get about 50% off by using daily deal sites. Learn more about daily deal sites here!

Tip from a Reader-Get a Rain Check

by chrissy on September 29, 2010

in Uncategorized

I just talked to someone at CVS headquarters (called the 1-888 # on the website). Apparently the Oral B Toothbrush is a new item that most stores have not received yet (she has been getting a lot of calls). You can get a rain check for this item and it will still give you the ECBs. They will contact your local store manager to see if they can find one for you, if not, they will issue the rain check.

I would definitely call 888-607-4287 (CVS) and request this!

Erin
