While Kristin has been traveling around the country and dealing with Daylight Savings time issues, I’ve been partly out of commission myself. I’m expecting our second child around October 10 which means I’m about 13 weeks pregnant now. My husband and I are absolutely thrilled. However, so far the first trimester symptoms of exhaustion and nausea have not ceased so I’m still not operating at full capacity. I am hopeful I’ll be back on my feet soon, and I know that every uncomfortable symptom I’m experiencing is absolutely worth it!
For this reason and also because Meagan who was a contributing writer for Green Space has had to step down, there will not be a new Green Space article this week. Please join us again next week.

If you are planning on doing some spring cleaning, I wanted to point out some fantastic green resources that will help you use the tools and ideas that we’ve been discussing in the Green Space:
Decluttering? Real Simple magazine has a guide at their website called How to Recycle Anything. Take a look at it before you start, and sign up for freecycle, too. You would be amazed at how many people want the stuff you don’t need anymore, so post your clutter and let it bless someone else’s home.
While you’re at it, don’t toss those clothes with holes right away. At Craft:, it’s March Mending Month and they have dozens of posts on how to fix common small problems to lengthen the life of your items.
What are your spring cleaning tricks we can learn from? How do you plan to clean greener this year? Leave me a comment, I need inspiration!

Here in the Green Space, we’re proponents of making small changes because we know that they do add up. We’ve posted about a number of ideas that can start you down the path of more eco-friendly living. We’ve written about using reusable shopping bags, shopping for organics within a budget, saving energy around the house, environmentally friendly cleaners you can buy and those you can make, and more. We challenge you to pick one (or many!) of these or other simple ideas to try to incorporate into your life in January and beyond. You may be surprised at how easy it really is to make eco-friendly choices and save money at the same time.
Need more inspiration?
Rechargeable batteries are faster to charge and less expensive than ever before. Commit to stocking yourself up in a common household size like AA or AAA and using those (and only those!) for this year.
Rinse out plastic bags and reuse them before tossing. Even if you don’t want to store food in them a second time, puzzle pieces, Legos, coupons and other small household items all find a new home easily in storage bags of different sizes.
Join your local Freecycle network. Whether you unexpectedly come upon something you thought you would have to buy or you find a location for an item eating up precious space in your home (and that would otherwise hit the landfill), it’s easy to join and, as the name implies, won’t cost you a cent!
Commit to not buy anything one or two days of the week. It’s common knowledge that consumerism is often the enemy of eco-friendly living.
Hang one load of laundry to dry per week. Indoor drying racks work well for this purpose. You could even try posting a “want” ad on Freecycle if you don’t own a drying rack.

This week we’d like to give you a chance to get to know the other blogger behind Tuesday’s Green Space feature a little better.
Meagan blogs here every two weeks and at her blogon all things frugal and green!
We feel so very lucky to have these two women blogging with us and offering some guided focus to a feature we feel is so important in our lives and goes so well with being frugal!
Visit Meagan’s blog when you get a chance, it’s a great resource and enjoyable to read! Like Katherine, I joined the BeCentsAble team in September as a contributor to the Green Space feature. I have been blogging my personal adventures in green frugal parenting at sage since July. To me, green frugal parenting is trying to make environmentally-conscious choices for my family, in the most economical way possible. That means finding coupons and deals for organic and natural products, detailing kids craft projects using upcycled and household items, and relaying family-friendly resources for recycling, celebrating, cooking, and more. I love writing for BeCentsAble because I get to share my passion with a wider audience.
My husband and I met in college and have been married for 9 years. I have 9 month old identical triplet boys and an older son who is almost 4. I work in public affairs and was recently really lucky to find a part time job in my field, so I believe I have the best of both worlds! When the little boys were born in March, I saw our expenses explode and started looking to lower our costs which led me to all sorts of new blogs, and then to start one of my own. I see it as a challenge to keep our house full of organic groceries and natural cleaning supplies while spending as little as possible. I’m always looking to save time, money, and our precious environmental resources. Thanks for joining me!
This week we’d like to know your favorite resources for green/frugal living. Website, book, blog or Radio/TV…share it with us so we can expand our resources, too! Leave a comment below.
